Traveling to Moldova -Refreshing and Rich Experience

I have traveled to many places in my life, but only few places impress me anymore. Moldova is one such place. It was so refreshing to travel to Moldova that I decided to go back there again.

What is special about tourism in Moldova ?

As a tourist in the Republic of Moldova, I was impressed by the historical scenes and the beautiful nature:

Moldova Historical Sites:

In the 1350s, the medieval Principality of Moldavia was established. It was the medieval precursor of modern Moldova and Romania. It was also controlled by the Ottoman empire from 1538 until the 19th century. The Russians later fought the Turks and took over half the territory (the eastern side). Moldova is rich in historical sites and plenty of places to visit. While Moldova is so rich in historical sites it remains one of the least visited places in Europe.

I believe that the lack of government sponsored tourism strategy is the main reason why Moldova is not visited as much by tourists.

Some of the historical sites I strongly advice tourists to visit in Moldova include:

- Sahrna Monastery

- Soroca

- Melestii Mici wine cellar

- Republic of Transnistria and Tiraspol

- Orheiul Vechi settlement

- The Tank monument

Nature in Moldova:

The natural landscapes of Moldova are amazing and influenced by its moderate continental climate. Mild and sunny climate helps nature flourish with European-like forests and vegetation. More than 70% of Moldova is covered by agriculture landscape and lush green surroundings. There are 4 nature reserves and protected areas in Moldova which are rich and diverse in biological life. It is estimated that there are around 116 rare and endangered species in Moldova. If you like nature then Moldova is the place to visit.

Wine in Moldova:

Moldova has more than 10,000 ha of vineyards, so it is natural for wine to be on the tourists agenda when visiting. I am not a wine drinker, but I did visit different vineyards and wineries.

For wine lovers and enthusiasts traveling to Moldova, here is a link for more information.
